Caswell North Sports Complex

North Mankato, MN | Sports + Recreation

Overview

The City of North Mankato, Minnesota, retained ISG to undertake a comprehensive review of the athletic complex and facility needs of the region and prepare a plan that best utilizes this City-owned park property.

Opportunity

The City wanted to develop a master plan for Caswell Park to accommodate identified needs in an efficient and sustainable manner within the constraints of the site selected for development.

Solution

ISG worked with the City of North Mankato to develop a master plan for Caswell Park. The benefits of the final plan include meeting regional recreation needs and providing a year-round facility; continued and expanded partnerships; an updated and inspired wayfinding system and a framework to identify spaces; improved pedestrian safety, comfort and accessibility; new and improved public gathering spaces; enhanced bicycle accommodations; consolidation of parking and park access points; and the incorporation of green infrastructure and strategies.

Softball Complex
Located in North Mankato, Caswell Park has hosted numerous state, regional, and national tournaments. The handicap accessible facility includes six fields with lighting capabilities, concrete dugouts with drinking fountains and bat racks, electronic scoreboards, as well as grass warm-up areas. This complex also features a Miracle League field for special needs athletes, Fallenstein Field.

Soccer Complex
Caswell North Soccer Complex includes configurations for 8-20 soccer fields, with flexibility to host tournaments for all ages of competitors. This project was a cooperative effort between the Mankato United Soccer Club, the local school district, and the City. ISG designed layout concept plans for the addition of a future elementary school with soccer fields. The Complex now serves as a preeminent soccer tournament location for the region.

Complex Rebranding + Wayfinding
Working with ISG’s graphic design and marketing team, ISG’s landscape architects developed a new, campus-wide, branded signage.
