Holiday Inn Express

Mankato, MN | Commercial

Overview

Addressing a need for overnight amenities in the growing downtown of Mankato, Minnesota, Holiday Inn Express & Suites partnered with ISG for a new 88-room facility.

Opportunity

For the new Holiday Inn Express & Suites required an innovative multi-disciplinary design partner to comply with the InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Green Engage system requirements that mandate hotels to complete best practice solutions that create energy and cost savings.

Solution

Designing Mankato’s new Holiday Inn Express & Suites required a comprehensive team approach among IHG, the facility’s owner, the City, and ISG’s design team. ISG led design throughout the duration of the project, resulting in a five-story hotel featuring 88 guest rooms, a 24-hour business center, two meeting rooms, guest laundry facilities, and a 24-hour fitness center. The hotel features an indoor swimming pool, wading pool, and whirlpool area. Cost savings were created by including a pool dehumidifier using reactivation technology instead of refrigeration, which provides more accurate humidity control and reduced energy consumption. Moreover, designs for individual rooms reduced energy consumption by 70% with energy recovery units, which allow guest rooms to have fresher air while improving efficiencies in the ventilation and exhaust systems.
