Overview

ISG has worked with Hawkeye Community College on a number of projects over the years, including major renovations and new buildings that serve the institution’s diverse course offerings and student enrollment.

Opportunity

Hawkeye Community College has been in the process of modernizing its academic facilities to better prepare students for professional life. Moreover, with a number of buildings on campus, it’s important to have a partner that can strategically and responsively tackle maintenance projects.

Solution

ISG has been a long-time partner with Hawkeye Community College (HCC) and has conducted work on projects ranging from complete renovations to more minor updates and improvements.

Van G. Miller Adult Education Center
ISG designed this three-story, 45,000 sq. ft. building to inspire collaboration and enable all students to learn. The facility includes flexible maker spaces, special nursing classrooms, and a café where English language learners can practice newly acquired communication skills. Also equipped with daycare facilities and an ability to double adult education, the Adult Education Center is able to provide enhanced opportunities for all learners.

Hawkeye Center
For HCC’s student center, ISG renovated the existing cafeteria into offices and conference rooms. ISG’s remodeling efforts also included the interior atrium where the design team implemented skylights in the rotunda roof to provide natural lighting, supplanted an existing circular stair with a grand straight run stair, and replaced the existing second floor railing to meet code requirements. ISG was also involved in a series of partial reroofing projects to replace sections of the aging original built-up roof.

Grundy Hall
The renovation of academic labs and facilities was a major priority for ISG’s design team at HCC’s Grundy Hall. ISG remodeled the dental area and nursing labs to meet current teaching standards, renovated a conference space into biology and chemistry labs, and updated an existing classroom to house six simulation stations for nursing training with the latest technology.
