Forsman Farms, Litchfield Turn-Lane Design
Litchfield, MN | Transportation
Overview
As a trusted design and engineering partner of Forsman Farms, ISG was selected to create designs and plans for a right turn-lane for the new Litchfield facility located off Trunk Highway (TH) 22 in Meeker County, MN.
Opportunity
Due to growing operations and increased traffic, Forsman Farms in Litchfield, MN was looking to increase safety and improve accessibility to its new farm facility by implementing a right turn-lane.
Solution
ISG worked with Forsman Farms to design a new access point to the Litchfield farm site. Due to an increase in traffic generated by the site and the delay times it would cause, Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) required a right turn-lane be added to improve traffic flow and ensure safety. Working in close collaboration with MnDOT, ISG researched the environmental documents showing the need for a new right turn-lane and obtained the proper permitting for the site. ISG utilized previous site designs and driveway permitting for the project and continues to work with multiple agencies to ensure state requirements are met.
Currently in the design phase, services include a topographic and boundary survey to locate existing elevations, roadway features, and utilities as well as a level 3 geometric layout and construction plans. The right turn-lane was strategically designed to provide the appropriate stopping distance for different vehicle types entering and exiting the facility, while also accommodating the increased traffic flow for current and future operations within the site. ISG’s familiarity with Forsman Farms operations and strong working relationship with MnDOT helped keep operations moving forward, as the team’s transportation specialist developed custom solutions.
