Albert Lea VA Clinic

Albert Lea, MN | Healthcare

Overview

Albert Lea VA Clinic sought-out ISG expertise in mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering in collaboration with Roth Sheppard Architects and Borton Construction to construct their new outpatient VA healthcare facility.

Opportunity

The Albert Lea VA Clinic offers veterans short wait times and efficient healthcare through a wide-range of outpatient services including mental health resources, radiology, laboratory, social work, a pharmacy, and telehealth. The Clinic endeavored to expand their services to make it safer and easier for veterans to get healthcare, as many of the veterans’ primary health care providers are located out of the Twin Cities.

Solution

ISG provided engineering expertise, allowing the Clinic to expand its healthcare services, increasing essential telehealth services including auditory sensitivity testing, retinal, and dermatology services—simultaneously implementing up-to-date, high performance mechanical and electrical systems for their new energy-saving facility. The facility is equipped to help thousands of veterans with 100 percent VA staff, as mechanically efficient and cost-effective, safe, and comfortable for patients and staff through systems such as a high-efficiency hot water boiler heating system paired with variable air volume zoning for optimal thermal control, active humidification, and a central building automation system capable of ensuring peak energy efficiency. ISG’s engineering expertise on-site was integral for the Clinic to attain Green Globes Certification, an initiative recognizing the building’s environmentally sustainable design by implementing Best Management Practices for stormwater runoff and erosion control in addition to the facility’s energy-saving systems.

“The fact [that] you have a [local] facility with mental health opportunities, that you’re looking out for them, that you’re helping them live the longest and best life possible, it really means a lot to us."
