Dordt University Bioreactor
Sioux County, IA | Water
As part of the Dordt University research farm, ISG designed and constructed a bioreactor to be used as an educational tool for agricultural students and members of the community.
Sioux County, Iowa contains a high concentration of livestock impacting water quality.
To improve water quality within the region, ISG partnered with Dordt University to design a bioreactor in a scientific and reasonable manner while also supporting higher education outreach goals. Treating 365-acres, the unique site conditions allow for the conservation practice to treat two tile lines, reducing nutrient loading into Iowa waters.
As the largest ISG-designed bioreactor in Iowa, the project provided several educational opportunities including a field demonstration and observation of the woodchips in the chamber prior to the addition of the soil cap at the Sioux County Conservation Agricultural Fair.
