Johnson Park

New Ulm, MN | Sports + Recreation

Overview

Legendary ballfield, Johnson Park Grandstand, has a long legacy and iconic status in the hearts of local fans. ISG completed the planning, design, and construction administration, prioritizing accessibility while paying tribute to the Park’s traditions and heritage.

Opportunity

Established in 1939, the existing stadium was outdated, lacked accessibility, and needed major updates to accommodate players and spectators.

Solution

Community input was a key part of developing the Park’s master plan. Three separate public meetings were coordinated to keep citizens engaged and active throughout the four-month process. Accessibility and quality emerged as two crucial values, along with consolidating amenities such as locker rooms, concessions, restrooms, and storage onto one site. Improved aesthetics were another area of focus, and feedback indicated a desire for standardizing plantings, banners, signage, and pavement materials to deliver a unified message and branding across the complex.
