Dulcimer Medical Center

Fairmont, MN | Healthcare

Overview

ISG designed the Dulcimer Medical Center to provide a calming space for patients receiving medical care.

Opportunity

The Fairmont community needed a medical care facility with a warm, comfortable atmosphere for patients.

Solution

The Dulcimer Medical Center was designed to feel comfortable and relaxing so its patients feel at home while receiving care from the medical staff. Its philosophy is that harmony enhances health, and that sense of harmony is the inspiration for how the center was designed. The expansive lobby is filled with natural light. The building interior spaces are situated to overlook a natural creek and prairie, bringing the outside in and delivering a tranquil and healing sense of place. Providing daylight through windows and skylights was important for the patient rooms and offices for the physicians, nurses, and staff. To establish the prairie-style design, exterior design elements were integrated into the interior as well. Natural materials of wood and stone with finishes in soothing colors and organic and flowing patterns were used throughout the building.
