Kasson-Mantorville Field

Kasson, MN | Sports + Recreation

Overview

To address the diminishing quality of their athletic facilities, including their football field and the surrounding track, the Kasson-Mantorville School District asked ISG to help with remodeling. The football field experienced irrigation and drainage inefficiencies and the track’s surface and base were deteriorating. Finding cost-effective solutions was an important objective during the planning phase to keep expenses low.

Opportunity

An early topographic survey, site grading, and utility plans were drawn up to identify the most efficient renovation methods to construct improved drainage and storm water management, fostering a healthier and softer turf. Close collaboration between ISG and the School District played a key role in discovering the best solutions to reconstructing the old facilities. Architectural planning and cost estimates were prepared for the Schools so they had the flexibility to meet their needs within their budget. This also helped fundraising events and gave a better understand what could be done with the money that was raised. By working with a phased design and construction program, the School District was able to exert a fair amount of control over the project’s schedule and budget throughout the process.

Solution

The changes and renovations made to the athletic facilities created a more user-friendly area. The football field featured a smoother playing surface and was installed with synthetic turf. The old track surface was completely replaced, while cracks in the base were filled with a fabric and rubberized asphalt composite membrane called Petrotac®. The track painting is 100% polyurethane, chosen because it is both durable and cost-effective and meets National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSHSA) standards. The high jump, long jump, and pole vault runways were also updated, while new shot-put and discus areas were added.

Following initial plans for these facilities, additional designs were created to include other visitor facilities, such as parking, restrooms, and concessions, and a new ticket booth and spectator seating. School colors were integrated into the two-acre workspace designs to foster school pride and student community. The royal blue color is incorporated at both end zones of the turf, the school’s letters on the field and announcement building, and the scoreboard. The name of the team, “Komets,” faces both the home and away bleachers in white.

ISG remodeling provided the Kasson-Mantorville Field with much needed updates and additions, giving students a space where they can cheer for their team with pride.
