Cedar Falls Community School District
Cedar Falls, IA | Education
Overview
To solve overcrowding issues, ISG helped Cedar Falls Community School District with a referendum to fund a new school and other considerable remodeling projects.
Opportunity
A local 1% sales tax was not enough to support enhancements for the quickly growing Cedar Falls Community School District, requiring the District’s first bond referendum up for a vote in 40 years.
Solution
ISG provided preliminary design services for the District’s new Aldrich Elementary School during the pre-bond phase of this $35 million referendum. Based on the assessment and stakeholder feedback, ISG tailored design initiatives to enhance the functionality of the school. With a successful bond referendum, ISG designed a new elementary school, as well as upgrades to two other elementary schools in the District.
Aldrich Elementary School
The new Aldrich Elementary School includes sustainable systems such as geothermal heating and bioswale stormwater features. It was designed with a central hub and several wings serving students from preschool through sixth grade. The school embraces modern learning through its inclusion of maker spaces, ESTEM rooms, and a media center and library named the “Curiosity Center.” The cafeteria and gymnasium are separated by a moveable wall partition, and a slightly raised stage provides space for student performances of art, theatre, and music.
