TH 14 Roundabout
New Ulm, MN | Transportation
Overview
As part of a collaborative effort between multiple public and private entities, ISG designed a roadway construction project that brought a roundabout to a growing commercial area near New Ulm, Minnesota.
Opportunity
To create a safer connection to a highway, a new commercial development, and a Menards retail store, constructing a roundabout at a busy intersection in a developing area was the best course of action.
Solution
This new single-lane roundabout on TH 14 between New Ulm and Mankato sits at the entrance of a large new commercial development and a Menards store. ISG designed the roadway and utilities for this innovative project including the site work for the new retail store. The roundabout features pedestrian/bike paths, crosswalks, and lighting. Given the roundabout’s location at the entrance of the store, as well as pedestrian and bicycle traffic, the project required thoughtful lighting design. The design team leveraged lighting software to establish the optimal levels of light coverage and distribution to ensure the safety of all users.
