City of Kiron Water Resource Restoration Project
Kiron, IA | Water
Overview
ISG designed green infrastructure to reduce the negative effects of stormwater runoff.
Opportunity
With major erosion issues during rain events, the City of Kiron needed to implement effective stormwater management systems.
Solution
The City of Kiron had major issues with substantial urban and agricultural stormwater runoff causing soil erosion, stream bank failure, and nutrient contamination of East Otter Creek. During large rain events, the gravel road leading to the City’s wastewater treatment plant was prone to wash out. ISG designed a solution utilizing Low Impact Development (LID) practices including bioswales and bioretention cells to treat, infiltrate, and reduce the stormwater’s peak flows.
