Clear Lake Aquatic Center
Clear lake, IA | Sports + Recreation
Overview
ISG helped the City of Clear Lake bounce back from previous bond failures for a new aquatic center by reassessing community needs and developing plans for a facility with strong public buy-in.
Opportunity
The community had always relied on the local lake for water recreation, but due to public demand, the City began investigating the feasibility of a community swimming pool.
Solution
The Clear Lake community communicated its interest in a new swimming pool and aquatic center. After two failed bond issues for a highly priced project, Clear Lake hired ISG to propose a more economical solution. A family aquatic center on City property, formerly used as their public works headquarters, was proposed by ISG. Designs included two waterslides, zero-depth entry, and updated dressing and concessions building. The result was the passage of a third bond issue and the pool was opened in the summer of 2007. A surge in participation pointed to the need for an alternative to lake activities and the aquatic center has provided another amenity for Clear Lake’s tourist draw.
