Clarion Aquatic Center
Clarion, IA | Sports + Recreation
Overview
ISG provided designs for a reconstruction that saved the City more than $1 million, added an additional 20 years of life to the facility, and increased attendance at the Clarion Aquatic Center.
Opportunity
The City of Clarion wanted to upgrade its 1930s era swimming pool to attract more visitors and reduce costs down the line.
Solution
This unique reconstruction of the City of Clarion’s 1938 swimming pool saved over $1 million and satisfied the City’s needs. The pool’s shallow end was demolished and replaced with a zero-depth entry and plunge area for two water slides. ISG’s design provided a peninsula to separate the shallow area from the rest of the pool, where the 12-foot depth deep-end diving boards were moved, and two fast-drop slides were added. The existing 1938 bathhouse was replaced and now includes ADA accessibility and many modern amenities. The revisions added an additional 20 years to the life of the dated facility and attendance has soared as community members enjoy their new aquatic center.
