Stewartville, MN | Education
Overview
The new $22.5 million Bear Cave Intermediate School supports over 500 students and promotes modern learning practices.
Opportunity
Flexible educational spaces were of importance to the Stewartville Public School District, allowing for 21st-century design and collaborative spaces throughout the facility.
Solution
Designed with openness and flexibility, Bear Cave Intermediate serves students in grades 3-5. Each grade within the Intermediate school is nestled in its own community of pods with separate amenities for each grade level such as locker bays, restrooms, and classrooms that are connected by a main corridor at the ground level. This two-story facility supports different learning styles to suit its students and colorful, moveable furniture to maximize classroom collaboration. These separate but connected spaces reinforce the feelings of inclusion and safety among the students. The new $18 million facility was completed in the summer of 2016 and now supports 500 students.
