Humboldt Pavement Management Study

Humboldt, IA | Public Works

Overview

ISG performed an assessment of the City of Humboldt’s road network and developed a long-term reconstruction schedule with implementation strategies.

Opportunity

With varying conditions in its road system, the City of Humboldt needed to develop a strategy that would enable strategic pavement maintenance projects for the future.

Solution

This infrastructure planning project incorporated the services of ISG’s civil and municipal engineering and planning experts. An initial assessment of the condition of the City’s entire 45-mile road network was conducted. Each segment was provided a rating from 0 to 100 using the Pavement Condition Index. Preventative maintenance solutions were then provided based on the existing conditions. An annual budget was recommended for preventative measures to ensure streets are well maintained. A 50-year street reconstruction schedule was also developed which prioritized street improvements and provided current day cost estimates to help the City plan financially for future improvements. A work session with the City Council was conducted to share implementation strategies and recommendations.
