Overview

ISG designed a renovation for Snell Motors’ new facility that converted a former retail store to a full-service auto center.

Opportunity

Snell Motors purchased a vacant Menards building that would be the site of its auto center, requiring significant multi-disciplinary design support.

Solution

First opening its doors in 1951, Snell Motors has been dedicated to exceeding their customers’ expectations through better products, services, and facilities for nearly 70 years. Continuing to expand their outreach and success, Snell Motors purchased a vacant Menards building in the area after years of steady growth. ISG completed the interior and exterior renovation of this former Menard’s retail store, converting it into the Snell Auto Center.

The 35,000 sq. ft. facility has space for over 70 vehicles, offices, conference rooms, refreshment bistro, reception and customer waiting area, and a separate conference training room that can be utilized by the community. Exterior renovations included replacing the existing metal roofs with new architectural metal panels, and adding overhead doors for car access. Glass curtain walls were also added to flood the showroom floor with natural light. EIFS panels create vertical elements to help identify the new entries, and also provide a water resistant finish. This facility is now the largest indoor showroom in southern Minnesota, and its opening was used to launch the company’s new concept in the automobile buying experience.

In 2009, ISG helped Snell Motors add the Snell Auto Wash, offering a full service car wash to the community. This state of the art in line car washer is capable of washing a vehicle in only two minutes from start to finish, giving it a capacity of up to 120 vehicles per hour or 2,000 vehicles per day. The facility boasts a water reclaim system, which recycles 40% of water used, and an Express Lane for VIP customers. Clerestory windows and glass panel garage doors add natural light to the six detail bays.

Most recently, Snell added the Snell Powersports and Equipment store, providing all season lawn and yard care equipment and powersports and marine products. While also offering new and pre-owned inventory, the site offers full small engine repair services. Through these ongoing additions, Snell Motors achieves their mission in delivering superior services.
