Meet ISG UAV Specialist Bradley Kruse
A UAV specialist that flies his own planes…though has yet to conquer flying like Ironman. Read on to learn more about employee owner Bradley Kruse and the exciting missions he has the opportunity to pursue at ISG.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is when a product that was delivered from a UAV mission provides a significant level of insight that would not have been otherwise possible/economically feasible.
What is one piece of work-related advice you would give?
If you happen to make a mistake, own it, learn from it, and apply that lesson to future projects. When I first started working in the UAV industry, I made many mistakes ranging from incorrect placement/rotation of GPS antennas on the UAV to simply leaving a job site and forgetting that my laptop and all its data was still on the hood of the truck. It gave my superior and myself a better peace of mind when I owned my mistakes, fixed them, and came up with a plan to avoid the mistake in the future.
What do you love most about ISG’s culture?
Hands down the entrepreneurial spirit that everyone embodies. From my experience, this environment is very rare, and I couldn’t be more grateful to help contribute to ISG’s splendid culture.
How did you come to work in UAV industry?
It occurred to me that it was possible to pursue a career in the UAV industry back in 2012 when I first saw the Gatewing X100 (now owned by Delair) at the ESRI User Conference. After years of searching, it wouldn’t be until 2016 when I was offered an opportunity to develop a UAV-based LiDAR program for a small surveying company in Atlanta, Georgia, and it took off from there.
What do you like most about working in the UAV industry?
I really enjoy being able to travel to many different places to perform UAV missions. Each mission provides a new set of challenges that can be quite exhilarating. Also, when conducting mapping-based UAV missions, I find it fun to sift through data to find out what makes that particular location unique/interesting.
Where is your favorite vacation spot and why? In relation, where is your dream vacation?
My favorite vacation spot is Seaside, Florida. It is a very relaxing and fun place to hang out, and they also have a half-marathon race that I try to run every other year. My dream vacation would be in Bora Bora.
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
I received a few awards for sports back in grade school and college, but nothing yet in terms of my career.
