As ISG continues to grow and expand to new geographies, we want to share a few non-traditional benefits that have come with employee owners choosing to relocate. Culture transplants ensure that as we continue to grow, we stay true to our core values, mission, purpose, and culture, which not only benefits ISG employee owners, but our clients as well. This why we encourage relocation across all our locations.

Mutual benefits to clients and the firm:

·        Motivated individuals are eager to apply their expertise to local projects

·        Leadership opportunities for employee owners ultimately enhance the client experience

·        Hometown pride drives alignment with the local landscape, community culture, and project brand

More obvious than client and firm benefits, employee owners are learning of the many opportunities that come with relocation. ISG has had over 75 employee owners relocate at least once to develop their skills, experience an adventure, take on a new challenge, and promote our one-of-a-kind culture. Here are three employee owners who made the move and why:

Senior Architect Alyssa Campbell, AIA, LEED AP

Mankato, MN to La Crosse, WI

Driven to gain exposure to new projects and be a local leader for the architecture team, Alyssa invested in herself and in the firm by relocating to Wisconsin. She and the new crew established ISG’s La Crosse office. She helped lay the foundation to build ISG’s presence in a new state, bridge trust with clients, and apply her architecture expertise to make a difference.

La Crosse, WI to Green Bay, WI

After working remotely for five years after her time in La Crosse, Alyssa was ready to be back in the office to collaborate in person with her fellow employee owners and practice group, as well as return to her hometown of Green Bay. By bringing her architecture expertise to the newly established Green Bay office, she extends ISG’s service offerings and culture from the other offices she worked in. Her regional expertise on local, specialized projects, including cultural and tribal projects, brings clients and her team informed design. She continues to contribute to Green Bay’s multi-disciplinary office and make a positive impact on the community today by leveraging her years of experience, adventure, and relationships that cross state lines.

Project Manager John Shamla, PE

Mankato, MN to Bloomington, MN

John wanted to explore more career options in the industry but needed a mentor to learn from and help him advance. Beneficial to John and the firm, his first move allowed him to explore a career path outside structural engineering by learning from a senior project manager. His new local mentors helped him expand his expertise while involving him more in a specific market.

Bloomington, MN to Green Bay, WI

Now a seasoned project manager, ISG approached John with an opportunity to build the culture and bench strength of our Green Bay office. His desire tomake an impact and contribute to growth solidified his move. Another result of the move was positioning him to work even more heavily in his primary market, making him an asset to the local team.

Graduate Engineer Colton Hipple

Sioux Falls, SD to Pierre, SD

As ISG began performing more work in South Dakota’s capital, Pierre, we opened a local office to be closer to the projects and our clients. In particular, many of Colton’s projects kept him traveling to Pierre, which happened to be his hometown. ISG recognized several qualities in Colton that could make him a natural fit to establish our office and presence in the area. He has a great local knowledge of the region and has the drive, expertise, and readiness to take on new challenges. After presenting the opportunity to him, Colton took the leap and is now helping establish our presence in Pierre as a local office leader.

Takeaways

The opportunity to explore relocation options within a firm is a benefit itself. Over the years, ISG has learned countless direct and indirect benefits for our clients, the firm, and employee owners—contributing to our successful firm culture.
