Motivated by the opportunity to work on a design project in his own backyard, ISG designer, Israel Salcedo (Izzy) reflects on his fond experience working out of the Des Moines West office, and vacillating between a future career as a soil conservationist or WWE wrestler.
The Des Moines office has a great vibe—just right for mechanical and technology-wired brains. Our Mechanical Engineering Group Leader, John Trickel, PE, and his crew create a positive culture and work environment. Along with the cool design of the office, nice view, and our plants (which we have managed to keep alive) this office will be missed once we transition to the new space.
Typically, I listen to podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience and anything soccer related. When I find a technology episode on Low Voltage Nation, I’ll listen to that as well.
The challenge of being a designer is the coordination aspect. Remembering certain details between all the disciplines can get tricky, especially with multiple projects going on at the same time. The responsibility of ensuring the design works within the model and other disciplines can get overwhelming but creates a good challenge and lots of learning opportunities.
Both Des Moines offices are situated in the heart of where I grew up. It will be really cool when I’m part of the design process for a project in my own neighborhood.
On the weekends you can find me coaching my younger brothers’ soccer team or watching anything soccer related. I also enjoy cooking and experimenting with new recipes. During the week I like to bike or walk the area trails and spend time with my family.
I had a few careers in mind. It started with wanting to be a firefighter, then aspiring to be a WWE wrestler. I also dreamed of being a professional soccer player, and most recently a soil conservationist. Did any of those happen? Not yet!

As ISG continues to grow and expand to new geographies, we want to share a few non-traditional benefits that have come with employee owners choosing to relocate. Culture transplants ensure that as we continue to grow, we stay true to our core values, mission, purpose, and culture, which not only benefits ISG employee owners, but our clients as well. This why we encourage relocation across all our locations.
