Inspired by her grandfather, Chantal Nack attended the University of Minnesota to study engineering and now helps provide structural engineering solutions at ISG. Read on to learn more about her impressive college athletic career and how she overcomes challenges in the engineering industry!
My grandpa has had a significant influence on my career path. Most of my family members and relatives are in the medical field as doctors, nurses, etc., and my grandpa was the only engineer in the family until I entered the industry. My grandpa, still working at 85 years old, is an aeronautical engineer by education. He attended and swam for the University of Minnesota – just like me! My grandpa is truly one of the most intelligent people I know, and he continues to educate himself and others. This is one of his attributes I have always admired. Throughout my childhood, he would teach me about his engineering background and would never miss an opportunity to share his love and appreciation for the University of Minnesota. Ever since I enrolled in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, he has been very happy to know that there will be another engineer in the family. I feel incredibly grateful for the past, present, and future impacts he has and will continue to make on my experiences in the engineering industry.
The atmosphere, culture, and employees at ISG have been my favorite part about working at ISG. I also have enjoyed getting to work on a variety of projects with a variety of people. From a U-Haul in New Mexico to an Athletic Complex in my hometown of Mankato, MN, I have experienced a range of projects during my first year here at ISG.
I enjoy interacting with groups of individuals from different areas of expertise working together towards a common goal. As a relatively new engineer, I am constantly learning and absorbing new information, and I am eager to challenge myself in as many ways as possible.
Most projects have their own unique elements, and with that comes various challenges. As structural engineers, our goal is to maintain the original design intent, layout, and appeal of the structure while also ensuring that the building has sufficient strength and stability. This challenge is one of the reasons I enjoy engineering - we are constantly encouraged to develop new ideas and solutions while communicating these effectively with the rest of the design team.
I spend most of my free time working out, hanging with family and friends, cooking, or exploring new places around the Twin Cities. As a former athlete, working out is a priority of mine. Whether it be swimming, lifting, or running, I always find enjoyment in exercising! Spending time with my family and friends is also very important to me. I have two sisters who are my closest friends, and I usually don’t go a day without talking to them!

Culture transplants ensure that as we continue to grow, we stay true to our core values, mission, purpose, and culture, which not only benefits ISG employee owners, but our clients as well. This why we encourage relocation across all our locations.
