City Storm Water Solutions Celebrated

October 14, 2015 (Kingsley, Iowa) – As part of the City of Kingsley’s solution for storm water issues, a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of a new Water Resource Restoration Sponsored Project will be held with ISG and other Project leaders. ISG designed the Project to focus on slowing storm water, reducing erosion, and improving water quality. As part of the ceremony, a water infiltration demonstration with a fire truck will show how the new permeable pavers, a unique Project component, will act as a sound solution for the City of Kingsley.

According to ISG Civil Engineer, David Doxtad, “This is an ideal storm water solution that shows how best management practices can improve water quality while providing storm water conveyance in a very tight footprint.”The permeable paver system was placed in an alley that receives substantial runoff during rainfall in order to allow rainwater to soak through gaps between the blocks into a rock chamber below, allowing sediment and pollutants to filter out of the water.

ISG assisted the City with designs and plans, as well as securing funding compliments of a relatively new Iowa law that allows sewer utility revenues to finance best management practices that improve water quality. As an incidental benefit many of these projects help relieve capacity on undersized storm sewer systems or provide controlled conveyance where no such system previously existed.

“This project was a cooperative effort by the City of Kingsley, along with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), State Revolving Fund (SRF), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Plymouth County, and ISG,” states Doxtad.
