Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library

Set within a 93-acre site in Medora, North Dakota, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is designed as an immersive educational and cultural destination celebrating the legacy of the 26th U.S. President. In collaboration with project partners, ISG served as the mass timber connection design consultant, providing specialized structural engineering expertise for the building’s signature curved roof. ISG provided a review and certification of structural timber connections of panels made from cross-laminated timber providing strength and stability, warmth, and less weight, compared with concrete and steel. These elements required intricate detailing at beam intersections to meet both architectural intent and structural integrity.

The building is being designed to Living Building Challenge standards, which include a focus on water, materials, energy, equity, beauty, place, and health and happiness, aiming to become the 35th project in the world with the certification based around the core values of citizenship, leadership, and conservation.
