St. Olaf College Soccer Field

Northfield, MN | Sports + Recreation

Overview

Following a generous philanthropic donation from a St. Olaf alum, the College reinvigorated its soccer programs with a new synthetic turf field.

Opportunity

An outdated grass field with poor drainage minimized usage by the St. Olaf Lion’s soccer programs.

Solution

Working closely with college officials, ISG designed the synthetic turf field section and field grading, and selected the synthetic turf rug and CoolPlay infill, chosen to reduce the ambient temperature of the field. The existing site berms were reconfigured to offer improved spectator viewing , and electrical work was incorporated into the site for the scoreboard. To address the City of Northfield’s concerns about the treatment of stormwater flowing through the synthetic turf field section, ISG worked through the environmental permitting requirements and developed sustainable stormwater improvements to mitigate potential water pollution of an adjacent wetland. ISG also provided bidding assistance to solicit competitive general contractor bids and researched and made recommendations to help the College select the right equipment and turf vendor to meet the needs of their soccer programs and student-athletes.
