Proctor Public High School Multi-Purpose Field
Proctor, MN | Sports + Recreation
Overview
ISG provided reconstruction services to transform Proctor High School's natural grass multi-purpose athletic field to synthetic turf.
Opportunity
Updating Proctor High School’s athletics stadium and designing a multi-purpose synthetic turf system for safer play and better performance—promoting the health of student athletes.
Solution
Through a cooperative purchasing arrangement with artificial turf manufacturer, FieldTurf, and construction manager, Peterson Construction, ISG worked with the team on the stadium’s field reconstruction. Site constraints led to the design of a 145,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose field to accommodate all school sports programs, including baseball, softball, football, soccer, and lacrosse. Selecting the FieldTurf Revolution system for its unmatched durability, the synthetic turf reduces maintenance, protects turf fibers from constant use, and keeps safety and performance consistent over its life cycle. Relocatable fencing was designed to be moved throughout the turf to delineate playing spaces for each event. The project team salvaged former athletic equipment and fencing from the original site during demolition to be reused alongside new materials—resulting in on-site cost-savings to the school.
A challenge of the project site was its adjacency to a protected Department of Natural Resources (DNR) trout stream, requiring innovative stormwater management practices. ISG developed a model of the multi-purpose field and designed a drainage system to provide stormwater management to meet the increased DNR requirements. Strategically using the field for stormwater management, without constructing additional stormwater facilities, provided additional savings of financial and natural resources.
