La Crosse Regional Airport

La Crosse, WI | Transportation

Overview

ISG is working with the La Crosse Regional Airport and its car rental agencies for a more convenient and secure facility that serves the airport’s travelers.

Opportunity

The existing rental car agencies at the La Crosse Regional Airport have their vehicle turnaround facilities located in dated buildings that are a five-minute drive from the terminal on the other side of the airfield.

Solution

ISG’s team of designers worked with the managers of the La Crosse Regional Airport to design a $2.5 million consolidated facility to meet the needs of the rental car agencies. The building has the capacity to house the four current tenant rental car agencies and can easily be expanded to include a fifth in the future. The site has the space to hold 216 rental cars. The building and site include numerous cameras, security gates, and a badging system to prevent trespassing and vandalism, increase safety and security, and determine fault in the case of property damage.

The interiors of the building needed to be designed to withstand the harsh environment of vehicle maintenance, fluids, and washing agents. Block walls and special coatings were designed to minimize penetration of water and chemicals into the building materials and make maintenance easier and cheaper. High-speed overhead doors that are flexible when struck and pop back into place and are nearly indestructible were specified. The rapid opening and closing of the doors ensures a more comfortable environment for staff while decreasing energy costs.
