Jim Gustafson Field + Hammer Athletic Complex

To meet the needs of its growing and diverse student population, Albert Lea Area Schools required updated facilities capable of accommodating multiple sporting events while improving accessibility for all athletes and spectators. Along with navigating a successful $24.6 million referendum campaign, our team provided planning, design, and project management services to construct an engaging, safe, and sustainable facility. An expansive curvilinear plaza interfused with shade trees welcomes spectators and encourages movement and casual interaction.

To keep players healthy and lower maintenance costs, a synthetic turf football/soccer field was incorporated into the design. Additional grass fields include two soccer, two baseball, and one softball, as well as one softball with a grass outfield and synthetic turf infield. Field grading and stormwater management was integrated to ensure maximum drainage and playability throughout each season.
