Fort Dodge Community School District
Fort Dodge, IA | Education
Overview
ISG prepared a multiple building facility assessment to lay the groundwork for a bond referendum. The successful referendum funded a new elementary school, gym, and athletic field upgrades, as well as other mechanical, electrical, design, and security upgrades District-wide.
Opportunity
When the Fort Dodge Community School District contracted ISG to perform a routine evaluation of their existing educational facilities, it did not expect the assessment to condemn an elementary school building, causing the relocation of students and classes to another facility.
Solution
ISG performed wide-ranging facilities assessments for the Fort Dodge Community School District that would lay the groundwork for a successful $28.5 million bond referendum to fund a new elementary school, gymnasium, and athletic field, as well as other mechanical, electrical, design, and security upgrades. The District received a global priority list with recommendations based on building physical needs, student safety, and community feedback. ISG provided suggestions for work that were organized by the immediacy of their implementation; for example, whether an issue needed completion within two years or between two and five, accompanied by probable costs.
After the previous elementary school was condemned, ISG designed the new facility, which includes the design of a classroom pod format with flexible teaching areas for collaboration and group work spaces, maker spaces in the library, and a new music room.
“I’m over-awed at the beauty and the planning that went into it. Everything about it is so clean and fresh and new and state-of-the-art, and it’s for the kids. The kids will love it. And so will the staff. . . I loved the old building, I didn’t think I could love anything more.”
