Stormwater Design + Modeling

Various Locations | mining

ISG’s stormwater management experts approach mining projects with the firm's vast modeling and design services to ensure environmentally responsible stormwater systems.

Stormwater management is an essential part of any mining operation. From temporary stormwater management to permanent controls, a well-designed stormwater management system can be an asset for a facility.

ISG designers provide full hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of overall systems and size management systems. Stormwater models may also include water reuse (for wash water or other processes) or settling basins for the deposition of sediment from separation or washing processes. With advanced software such as XP-SWMM and Hydro CAD, ISG is able to model individual rain events or a time series of rainfall and runoff to ensure the system has sufficient capacity.

Mining operations are often phased, sometimes over the course of many years. ISG also has experience in preparing comprehensive phased plans which allow for efficient use of basins constructed as part of the mining process. In several cases, wetland mitigation has been incorporated into permanent stormwater facilities, which results in an efficient use of land and minimizes off-site mitigation.
