Fort Pierre Connected Vision

Fort Pierre, SD | Transportation

Overview

ISG worked with the City of Fort Pierre and its community to engage local stakeholders to bring a community connectivity project to life.

Opportunity

The City of Fort Pierre’s oldest and most valuable resource is the Missouri River. With this in mind, the Future Fort Pierre initiative was created to bring new and enhanced economic, recreational, arts, and entertainment opportunities to Fort Pierre along the river.

Solution

In August 2018, ISG was hired by the City of Fort Pierre to lead an efficient, multi-day design charrette with key local stakeholders to conceptualize a community project that would coincide with the reconstruction of Lieutenant Commander John Waldron Bridge which spans the Missouri River. As a result of the process, ISG produced several conceptual drawings for a new bridge plaza, trailhead, walking path, fishing pier, and several art installations which exemplify Fort Pierre’s rich history. Understanding and sensitivity to SDDOT, SD GF&P, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other review agencies requirements was a consideration at the earliest design stages and will be important as the project moves into its next phase.

ISG’s relationships and working knowledge of local, state and federal agencies is essential during the design phase, but is also valuable for clients as they pursue outside funding to help bring their projects to fruition.
