Des Moines Area MPO

Des Moines, IA | Sports + Recreation

Overview

In order to provide a holistic plan for the water trails in the Greater Des Moines area, ISG worked with local communities to develop a comprehensive report that details possible improvements and strategies to make them a reality.

Opportunity

With an existing plan already developed, the Des Moines Area MPO wanted to take the next step and more clearly outline a plan to make the most of its significant water resources.

Solution

ISG completed a Phase I Regional Engineering Study + Report built upon the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Water Trails and Greenways Plan. Using the suggestions and recommendations included in the original Plan, ISG developed a report for communities to use in developing their own strategies. The report represents the next step in realizing the plan’s vision. With the goal of providing communities an implementation strategy for the outlined improvements, ISG field-verified all of the identified amenities and developed site plans, conceptual renderings, preliminary opinion of probable cost and construction schedules, and potential permitting requirements for each recommendation. The report provides community leaders with the information necessary to move forward with implementation and the process of reconnecting to this vital natural resource, our water.
